St Anthony’s Boys midfielder Aldrine Kibet Named SJAK Sports Personality Of The Month
Aldrine Kibet, a midfielder for St. Anthony’s Boys, is the LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month for the month of August.
The student sensation was recognized for his contribution to St. Anthony’s sixth national High School football championship in Kakamega.
His team’s 2-0 victory over Dagoretti High in the championship game capped a tournament in which he scored 25 goals and 27 assists.
He was also dubbed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition.
On Thursday, during the award ceremony, LG Electronics Corporate Communications & Marketing Manager Maureen Kemunto praised Kibet for receiving the honor, stating that it will encourage him to pursue his ambition.
Kemunto stated that they have been in partnership with Sjak for eight years, acknowledging talents. She noted that this year they aimed to enhance and recognize various disciplines.
She mentioned that it was a special occasion because the last time they awarded someone from a secondary school was three years ago, making Kibet’s win a significant honor.
Kibet was competing against Faith Kipyegon, who won gold in the 1,500m and 5,000m for Kenya at the 2023 World Championships; 800m world champion Mary Moraa; Volleyball sensation Sharon Chepchumba, who won the Most Valuable Player award at the CAVB African Nations Championship in Yaoundé; and Koyonzo High School Rugy coach Jackson Siketa, who led his squad to the national boys title.
Moses Wakhisi, the Secretary General of SJAK, extended his congratulations to Kibet for this achievement, emphasizing the importance of hard work in sports.
He expressed his delight in recognizing a young and emerging talent. Wakhisi thanked their partners, LG East Africa, for their support in making this recognition possible.
He encouraged other athletes to put in extra effort to have the opportunity for recognition in the future.
Kipyegon won the June and July awards for her record-breaking performance in the Diamond Leagues, during which she broke three world records in the 1,500-meter, mile, and 5,000-meter events.
For his achievement, Kibet, the 16-year-old, was bestowed with an LG 55″ NanoCell TV retailing at Sh118,000.
Kibet will soon enter the Nastic Soccer Academy (NSA) in Tarragona, Spain, which boasts more than 135 years of footballing tradition.
