Samburu, Marsabit Leads in Teenage Pregnancies; Full Statistics Per County
The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey report, which was issued on Tuesday, indicates that Samburu has the highest rate of adolescent pregnancies at 50 percent.
West Pokot (36%), Marsabit (29%), Narok (28%), Meru (24%), and Kajiado (22 per cent) are the counties that follow Samburu respectively.
In 2022, a nationwide survey of adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19 was conducted.
Macdonald Obudho, director of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, stated that Nakuru had 17 percent of teen pregnancies.
“Mombasa and Uasin Gishu tied at 11 per cent, while Kisumu had 10 per cent of teenage pregnancies followed by Nairobi with 9 per cent,” the report read.
15% of women between the ages of 15 and 19 have ever been pregnant on a national scale.
This information will provide current estimates of socioeconomic, demographic, health, and nutrition variables to guide population planning, implementation, monitoring, and assessment, according to Obudho.
Teenage girls in the lowest wealth quintile are more likely to have ever become pregnant than their wealthier counterparts.
From 21% in the lowest wealth quintile to 8% in the highest wealth quintile, the percentage of women who have ever been pregnant declines.
