US Embassy Announces Scholarships for Kenyan Students; How to Apply

The United States Embassy in Kenya has announced Fulbright Foreign Student Program scholarship options for Kenyan students.

The embassy stated in a statement dated January 18 that the program was slated to begin between 2024 and 2025.

The embassy added that the program will allow Kenyan students to study and do research in the United States.

“Fulbright US Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds.

"During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences,” read a statement on the programme’s website.

The duration of the program is projected to be between six and twelve months.

Eligibility

One must be a Kenyan citizen and possess the relevant travel documentation.

“In countries where the program is administered by the US embassy, applicants must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident qualified to hold a valid passport issued by that country.

"Applicants cannot hold citizenship in a partner country and US citizenship or permanent residency,” read the statement in part.

In addition, applicants must possess an undergraduate degree.

How to Apply

Applicants were instructed to submit their applications online at apply(dot)iie(dot)org/ffsp2024.

During the application process and approval, some of the criteria assessed include academic qualifications, project feasibility, personal leadership skills, and available grant monies.

“The academic year 2024-2025 typically corresponds to initial grant periods between August/September 2024 and May/June 2025; grant dates and grant lengths will vary by country and program,” read the statement in part.

According to the embassy, scholarship applications for the programme close by July 30.
