Pupil Dies, 9 Others Injured In Makueni Road Accident
A tragic incident occurred in Kiangini area on the Wote – Makindu road on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of one child and injuries to ten others. The children were on their way to school when the bus they were traveling in lost control and veered off the road.
Reports suggest that the bus was being driven by an unlicensed driver, who also sustained injuries in the accident. The deceased was identified as a five-year-old PP1 pupil, who succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The injured children were rushed to the Makueni County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Dr. Joseph Masila, the officer-in-charge at the Makueni County Referral Hospital, provided an update on the condition of the injured children, stating that five of them were in stable condition.
Four of them were undergoing further testing, while one was being attended to by a surgeon at the emergency department.
The body of the deceased pupil was transferred to the mortuary of the same hospital, as investigations into the accident continue.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring that drivers of school buses and other vehicles are properly licensed and qualified to operate such vehicles to ensure the safety of passengers, especially children.
“This morning we received victims of a road accident onboard a school bus. We have received 5 of them, who are in stable condition. Four of them are undergoing further testing and one is being attended to by our surgeon at the emergency department,” he explained.
The community is mourning the loss of the young student and sending condolences to the grieving family. Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident and holding the unlicensed driver accountable for their actions.
