Parents Advised to Watch Their Children Closely When Schools Close This week
Parents have been advised to watch their children closely when school is closed for a short break this week.
All secondary and primary schools are scheduled to be closed for ten days.
Nandi Hills Deputy County Commissioner Leonard Mgute warned that if not correctly managed, children may misbehave and destroy their lives.
Mgute told KNA that parents are responsible for mentoring their children while they are still young by monitoring how they spend their spare time so that they engage in beneficial activities.
The DCC highlighted that parents could influence their children’s future character by disciplining them.
At the same time, they are young, limiting their freedom, keeping them occupied and understanding the company they keep.
He warned that bad company undermines good morals, noting that parents or guardians must mold their children’s character around the clock.
“If you do not exercise prudence, our future civilization will be destroyed,” warned Mgute.
According to the administrator, school dropouts, early adolescent pregnancies, HIV/AIDS infections, and drug and substance misuse are rising in today’s culture.
He attributes this to the inability of parents and guardians to discipline their children at an early age.
He added that mothers must remain very close to their daughters and provide them with sex education, noting that girls have fallen victim to dangers associated with irresponsible sexual behavior.
As a result, they have ended up contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or getting early pregnancies.
