Only 173, 345 of the 881, 416 students who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams in 2022 would be granted direct university admission.

There were also no irregularities.

According to the results issued on Friday by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, the students scored a minimum university entry grade of C+ or higher.

This means that 713,073 of the 713,073 students who took the exams would be accommodated in technical training institutes and other postsecondary institutions.

“Most significantly, all the remaining candidates are elegible to join TVET institutions, Teacher Training Colleges, Medical 24 Training Colleges and other tertiary learning institutions for various courses,” Machogu said.

However, the results show that the number of students who scored university grades grew over the previous year, when 145,776 students received the grade.

In 2020, 1,146 students received A plain, compared to 1,138 in 2021.

A total of 875 male students attained a mean grade of A, boys have done better and I hope females will improve in the future,“ the CS stated.

Some 6,407 candidates received an A minus, 15,682 received a B plus, 31,303 received a B plain, and 48,719 received a B minus.

70,088 students obtain a C+.

However, 30,822 students received an E on the exams. There are 12,760 female students and 18,062 male students.

“Encouragingly, the number of candidates obtaining a mean grade of E in 2022 declined significantly to 30,822 (3.49%) despite the increase in candidature, compared with 46,151 (5.56%) in 2021,” the CS said.

“This clearly leads us to conclude that most of the candidates scored grades of higher quality,” he added.

A total of 489,081 candidates received a grade of D or lower. This represents 55.8 percent of the total number of students that sat the examination.

The number of candidates with a mean grade of D+ or higher in the 2022 KCSE Examination is 522,588 (59.14%), up from 442,251 (53.29%) in 2021.

135,021 candidates scored a D plus, 155,480 scored a D plain, and 167,758 received a D minus.

According to the results announced by CS Machogu, the number of candidates who scored a D-minus was 167,758.

In the 2022 KCSE exam, 190 candidates with special needs received a C plus or higher.

One applicant scored an A plain, nine students received an A minus, 18 received a B plus, 33 received a B plain, 48 received a B minus, and 81 received a C plus.

218 special needs students who took the exam received an E, 639 received a D minus, 486 received a D plain, and 281 received a D minus.

According to the results, 132 students in the special needs group scored 132 marks, while 180 received a C-minus.
