New college Gets Name After Margaret Kenyatta.
The Margaret Kenyatta Institute for Gender and Social Development has been established by the Ministry of Public Service and Gender Affairs.
The institution will be built as a collaboration between the Beyond Zero Initiative of First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and the Kenya School of Government (KSG), which will house the specialized college.
At State House in Nairobi, the First Lady witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by KSG Director General Professor Ludeki Chweya and Beyond Zero Coordinator Angela Langat.
The institution will be established at the KSG main campus in Lower Kabete, according to the MoU. In her remarks at the ceremony, the First Lady stated that the collaboration provides a new opportunity for the two organizations to promote Kenya’s gender and social development agendas.
Programs will be developed through the new Margaret Kenyatta Institute to empower women and girls to contribute more to the achievement of national and global development goals.
Furthermore, KSG and Beyond Zero will work together to identify specific areas for action in the areas of training, research, consultancy, policy advisory services, and community outreach.
She thanked the Ministry of Public Service, Youth, and Gender Affairs for assisting her office in advancing Kenya’s Vision 2030 by ensuring women have access to opportunities for personal and collective advancement.
The KSG Director thanked First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for agreeing to name the institute after her and become its patron. He noted that the signing of the MOU marked a watershed moment in Beyond Zero and KSG’s already thriving partnership.
Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki and Public Service CS Margaret Kobia were also present, as were Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) Rachael Shebesh (Public Service) and Jebii Kilimo (Gender).
According to Kobia, the college’s establishment will strengthen capacity building in the public sector, provide solutions to gender challenges, and serve as a valuable resource for the School and other learning institutions.

The collaboration between the two institutions, according to Kobia, will promote national development blueprints such as Vision 2030, the Big 4 Agenda, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the African Union Agenda 2063 through the institute.
The MOU was signed by KSG’s Director of Administration, Josephine Mwanzia, and Constance Gakonyo, Chief of Staff in the First Lady’s Office.
The AG’s office provided legal oversight and guidance in the agreement’s development.
