Narok Adult Students Surprise Kenyans With Shining KCSE Grades
Many were shocked when Narok Central Sub County’s Nacace High School emerged as the top school in the county with a mean grade of 7.9 points.
Principal Joshua Kimanzi reported that the school has 45 adult students between the ages of 25 and 47 who managed to excel in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE).
He noticed that 16 candidates had a grade of B, 17 candidates had a grade of B-, ten candidates had a grade of C+, one candidate had a grade of C plain, and one candidate had a grade of C-, implying that only two adult school students were ineligible for university admission.
Dr. Kimanzi observed that the majority of his candidates dropped out of school years ago due to lack of school fees, adolescent pregnancies, and other obstacles.
According to him, the average grade represents an improvement from the previous year, when the school received an average of 7.122 points.
Mercy Chepkurui, who scored a C+ plus on her secondary national examination, was among those who sat for the exam at the school. She revealed that she dropped out of school 20 years ago due to financial difficulties.
Chepkurui, a widow and mother of two children who will sit for their KCSE examinations at the end of this year, has expressed her desire to pursue a degree in Community Development, her lifelong interest.
The 45-year-old woman recalled how she had to sleep very late at night and wake up in the early hours of the morning to redo her class work in order to obtain an education.
“My score will motivate my children who are candidates this year. I believe they will do better than their mother,” she said.
Benjamin Upeni, who scored a student of C+ (plus), owed his success to God, explaining that he had to remain at home for two years after completing eighth grade due to a lack of school fees.
Upeni, who is qualified for admission to a public university, aspires to become a teacher in order to impart knowledge to the younger generation.
