Mukumu Girls to Get Ksh.6M Water Purification System, Jane Mmbone Wamukoya as New Principal
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has taken action in response to the recent incidents at Mukumu Girls’ High School, where four people, including three students and a teacher, have died and over 500 students were hospitalized due to contaminated food and water.
During his visit to the school, Machogu also ordered the destruction of all food that may have been contaminated and the procurement of a new consignment to ensure that the students have access to safe and healthy meals.
Machogu ordered the sinking of a new borehole and the treatment of water throughout the county. He also revealed that a water purification system worth Ksh6 million will be provided to the school to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the students.
Machogu further stated that the medical bills of the hospitalized students will be waived, easing the financial burden on the affected families. He also announced that the school will be reopened in two weeks’ time, with students receiving guidance and counseling to help them cope with the tragedy.
Machogu visited the school on Saturday and announced the replacement of the school’s principal, Frida Ndolo, with Sr. Jane Mmbone Wamukoya. Ndolo had previously blamed the media for the school’s closure in a circular to parents, accusing them of creating a “toxic environment.” However, Machogu took decisive action by replacing her.
