MPs Probe Begins Against CS Ezekiel Machogu’s Ministry Over KCSE Cheating

The National Assembly Committee on Education has announced that they will be conducting an investigation into the allegations of malpractice in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE).

The departmental committee will be inquiring into the administration process of the exam and the role played by the Ministry of Education.

The investigation will determine the validity of the claims of malpractice and make recommendations to the house.

The members of the committee will be scrutinizing the measures adopted by the Ministry of Education to curb cheating, as well as the performance of the examination management officers and the examination marking stations.

The committee will also be conducting a comparative analysis of the KCSE examination results from 2019 to 2022 to determine the trajectory of the results and whether or not it was plausible without cheating.

They will be examining the marking schemes, the integrity of the markers, and the processes of awarding marks and moderation.

In addition, the members of the committee will consider the need for legislating regulations for future examination processes.

In accordance with the constitutional requirement of public participation, the National Assembly has invited members of the public to provide their views on the credibility of Kenya’s exam system and recommendations for improvement through the Clerk’s office.

The recent results of the KCSE exam were met with skepticism from some Kenyans after some schools saw an abrupt rise in performance and a 100% transition of their candidates to the university.

The exam marking process was also disrupted by teachers who staged demonstrations in protest of the marking schemes used.

They will be scrutinizing the administration process, the measures adopted by the Ministry of Education to curb cheating, and the examination marking stations.

They will also be conducting a comparative analysis of the results and considering the need for legislating regulations for future examination processes.
