MP to Terminate Scholarships for Pregnant and Indiscipline Students
If a student from the Khwisero Constituency is pregnant, she will lose her right to the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary.
This is according to Christopher Aseka, a lawmaker from Khwisero, who spoke at Khwisero Girls Secondary School during the distribution of bursaries and scholarships to more than 1,994 deserving students.
Aseka was disappointed that so many pregnant girls who were receiving the scholarship had dropped out of school because it would not be fair to refuse them the offer.
“We lost some girls due to early pregnancy and some of you have been lured by hundred shillings and conceived and if we find out that you are under this (CDF) scholarship programme and are pregnant we will automatically terminate your scholarship,” he said.
The MP added that he had also instructed school administrators in his district to remove disobedient students from the scholarship program.
Aseka stated that a number of irredeemably unruly students have been removed from the program, and there are plans to remove additional students if their behavior does not improve. The focus is on addressing cases of drug use and other forms of indiscipline.
He explained that the objective is to cultivate discipline and responsibility among the students during this crucial phase.
This approach aims to create space for academically promising and financially disadvantaged students who are prepared to seize the opportunity to enhance their education and achieve excellence.
In addition, the lawmaker had good news for students with A grades.
Aseka reported that they had already established agreements with three universities worldwide. These agreements were contingent on students achieving grades of A and A minus, upon which they would be granted full scholarships.
Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule, who attended the event, stated that all leaders must make effective use of the CDF, particularly in assisting disadvantaged students to realize their ambitions.
Muchelule emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the Fund, noting its demonstrated capacity to facilitate students’ access to education without introducing political influences into the program.
He expressed the importance of ensuring that underprivileged students can uniformly access high-quality education through the initiative.
