MKU Founder Prof. Simon Gicharu Appointed KICD Chair

President William Ruto has appointed Gicharu, the founder of Mt. Prof. Simon Gicharu, as the chair of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) for three years.

Gicharu will resign from the Water Services Regulatory Board, as they have simultaneously revoked his appointment.

Gicharu was also the chairman of the National Association of Private University Owners in Kenya (NAPOK), where he effectively advocated for the government to review its higher education policies, resulting in an increase in university enrollment and high school-to-university transition rates.

In addition to leading MKU to become the largest private university in East and Central Africa in terms of infrastructure and student enrollment, Prof. Gicharu previously served as chairman of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.

Titus Kipkoech Korir also takes the helm of the KFS for three years, replacing Chirchir.

Ezekiel Machogu appointed Joel Kibe to the University of Nairobi Council for a three-year term.

Meanwhile, former Taita Taveta Member of Parliament Naomi Shaban has replaced Dr. Khama Rogo as the Tobacco Control Board’s chairman for the next two years.

Job Chirchir is the new chairman of the Water Services Regulatory Board, succeeding Professor Gicharu.

Also revoked was Chirchir’s position with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

Professor Kithure Kindiki has appointed CS Interior Nelson Dzuya, chairman of Jubilee, to the Non-Governmental Organization Coordination Board for a three-year term.

Mithika Linturi appointed Zakayo Maina to the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company for a three-year term.

Professor Njuguna Ndung’u, CS of the Treasury, revoked the appointments of Stephen Lmosta Lekupe and Erastus Kimuri to the Kenya Trade Network Agency Board.

In addition, he appointed George Okeyo to the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis board for a three-year term.
