Ministry Incorporates Climate Change Management into Curriculum
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, his ministry has incorporated concepts on climate change management into the curriculum.
According to Machogu, the curriculum equips students with environmental consciousness and the ability to sustainably and creatively safeguard the environment for future generations.
On Monday morning at Summer School Nairobi, during a Climate Justice Summit, Machogu added that climate change education also includes active participation in extracurricular activities such as tree planting and resource conservation, among others.
He added that the ministry has also organized training for educators to enhance their climate change management capabilities.
According to CS Machogu, education is a crucial instrument for mitigating the effects of climate change.
Machogu advocated for the necessity of climate change education that is not limited to traditional practitioners of disciplines, but rather for a multi-sectoral collaboration to address these issues in a sustainable manner across the curriculum at all levels.
Dr. Mithika Mwenda, executive director of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PCJA), stated that empowering young Africans with the knowledge and tools to advocate for sustainable solutions is the organization’s top priority.
Machogu joined the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance at the official inaugural symposium of the third cohort of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice at Kenyatta University.
