Kuwait Disqualifies 3,500 Kenyans in Govt Sponsored Deal after Failing Employment Test

Yesterday, the plan to export Kenyan human capital encountered a setback when it was disclosed that 3,500 Kenyans still needed to meet the fundamental requirements for professional employment in Kuwait.

Over 5,000 Kenyans had applied for the positions negotiated by the administration of President William Ruto.

Halima Mahmoud, the Kenyan ambassador to Kuwait, states that a mere 1,500 individuals have earned the necessary credentials to embark on a journey to the Middle Eastern nation in December 2023.

Kenyans who expressed interest in skilled employment opportunities underwent admission examinations; however, only 30% of the applicants demonstrated knowledge of the positions they were applying for.

Kenyans will travel to Kuwait more significantly in 2024 due to the Kenyan government’s agreement to export domestic labor.

Kenya and Kuwait still need to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to commence the recruitment process for domestic workers.

The recent cabinet reshuffle, which resulted in the transfer of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua to the Tourism portfolio, was cited as the reason for the delay in signing the MOU.

During the October reorganization, Mutua was anticipated to travel to Kuwait in order to finalize the deal.

As of now, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, who is currently in charge of foreign affairs, has yet to declare the signing date of the agreement.

Musalia will advocate not only for domestic employment opportunities but also for direct flights between the two nations.

According to Ambassador Mahmoud, Kuwait will continue to pursue skilled labor from Kenya despite the enormous number of applicants failing the examination.

Ruto declared in June that Kenya intended to dispatch one million Kenyans to work overseas.
