KSh.3 Million Bungoma High School Gate With A Cell Elicit Mixed Reactions.
Bungoma High School’s KSh 3 million gate has elicited mixed reactions on social media. According to the school administration, the ultramodern facility, which includes a cell for holding lawbreakers, will help improve security.
Many people, however, argued that the money spent on the gate could have been better spent on something else, such as building a classroom or a modern library.
The gate features massive metallic doors, a spacious office for security guards, and washrooms for school visitors.
The most notable feature of the ultra-modern gate is a detention cell where miscreants will be held before being turned over to the nearest police station.
The presence of the facility, according to the principal, Mr Enock Andanje, will help to strengthen security at the institution.
According to the details, the project was funded by KSh 2,000 contributions from parents and well-wishers.
Stephen Barongo, Western Region Director of Education, who attended the official launch, echoed Andanje’s sentiments.
“Out of the many schools I have visited, Bungoma High School gate is one of the best,” Barongo added.
The boarding school for boys students is located in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma County, Western Kenya.

Members of the public, on the other hand, have objected to the project, calling it a waste of resources.
According to them, the money spent on the gate should have gone toward a project that directly affects academics.
Despite the ongoing saga, Bungoma High School has remained a centre of academic excellence in Western Kenya since its inception.
In fact, the school known as ‘BG’ has consistently ranked among the top 100 performers in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national examinations.
It is the alma mater of several well-known Kenyans, including slain businessman Jacob Juma, Bishop Wilfred Lai of the Jesus Celebration Centre in Mombasa, and former Kadunyi MP Alfred Khang’ati.
“I am very impressed with the move by the Principal of this school Mr Enock Andanje for coming up with such a fantastic initiative of ensuring that the school gets a modern gate,” Barongo said.
