KNEC Announces 2023 KPSEA, KILEA Exams Registration Dates; How to Register

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) recently announced the dates for the registration of the 2023 National exams under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The assessment for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will begin on March 3, 2023, with a registration deadline set for April 3, 2023.

KNEC directed all heads of schools presenting learners for the 2023 KPSEA and KILEA to ensure that all learners are registered, and also issued directions on how the exams will be conducted.

The examinations will be hosted in the current Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) centres with candidature of 30 and above.

This means that institutions with a combined candidature of thirty and above for both KPSEA and KCPE examinations will be allowed to conduct the KPSEA in their premises.

Assessment centres with less than 30 candidates will be hosted in centres to be identified by Sub County Directors, in line with the guidelines provided by KNEC. However, special schools are exempted from this rule.

KNEC issued a warning against the registration of ghost learners, stating that the registration of learners who were not transitioning to grade six was an assessment malpractice.

The registration of ghost learners attracts sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC assessment centre.

To register, heads of institutions are required to log into the KNEC portal under the KPSEA to enter the details of their assessment centres, and also include the details of their learners using their assessment centre login information.

The heads of the institutions should ensure accuracy of the learner’s assessment number, name as it appears on the birth certificate, and gender.

Earlier on February 13, KNEC issued clarifications on the registration of the 2023 KCPE and KCSE exams, urging all candidates to fill in the order of their names as documented in their birth certificates and indicate the correct gender.

It is important for all candidates and heads of institutions to adhere to the guidelines and instructions provided by KNEC to ensure a smooth registration process for the 2023 National exams.
