Kisumu Girls School Closed: Details Behind Students’ Unrest
The Kisumu Girls High School in Kisumu County has been closed indefinitely.
According to reports, the school was halted on Sunday due to students’ persistent unrest. Some of the students lamented the school’s uninhabitable environment.
This occurred one day after the Ministry of Education announced the official school closing dates for the entire nation.
Reportedly, some students demanded the resignation of the current principal and other administration officials.

The chants at the national school led to the summoning of police officers to restore harmony on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the students’ disruptive behavior began on Friday and continued throughout the weekend, necessitating the precipitous closure.
Nelson Sifuna, the regional director of education for Nyanza, disclosed that students had also complained about corporal punishment and that the school administration was investigating some of the allegations.
“Yesterday, when officers from the National Government Administration and Ministry of Education attempted to address them in the Dining Hall, they became irate,” he continued.

Sfuna revealed that the students declined to publicly voice their concerns and were tasked with writing assignments instead.
Kenyans.co.ke contacted the school prior to the publication of this article but did not receive a response.
Meanwhile, images circulating on the Internet depict schoolgirls with their backpacks and boarding boda boda motorcycles as they leave the school entrance.
Some were with their parents and guardians, uncertain of when they would return to school and finish the academic year.

If the issue remains unresolved, it will disadvantage Form 4 students as they prepare for the November national examinations.
Principal Secretary of Education Belio Kipsang announced on Friday that the third term will conclude on October 27 to enable candidates to sit for national examinations.
