Kakamega County Set for National Schools Ball Games
Kakamega County is preparing for the start of the national schools baseball competitions on Tuesday, August 8.
The competition’s organizers stated yesterday that they were not taking any chances and were determined to make the competitions memorable.
Quinto Omusugu, general secretary of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Western Region, stated that preparations for the nationals were in their final phases.
On Saturday, August 5, he said, schools from across the nation that qualified to represent their respective regions would begin arriving at the Western headquarters.
“We expect all the participating teams on Saturday August 5 and Sunday August 6 after which they will train in their various spaces and acquaint themselves with the local environment,” said Omusugu.
In the meantime, the referees tasked with officiating the numerous matches will undergo training from August 5 to August 7.
“The teams will rest on Monday, August 7 as we prepare for the official kickoff on Tuesday, August 8,” the official explained.
The soccer, volleyball, rugby, handball, tennis, and hockey competitions will be held at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega High, St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys, St. Peter’s Seminary-Mukumu, Kakamega Approved School, and Masinde Muliro University, among others.
The five-day event has generated enthusiasm in Kakamega as merchants prepare to capitalize on the large number of attendees.
“This event is crucial for our county’s prosperity, as it will stimulate growth. I therefore guarantee the organizers complete safety. Governor Fernandes Barasa stated, “We are a peaceful and hospitable people, and I am confident that the participants will enjoy their time here.”
In the meantime, Cheptenye Primary School in Belgut Sub-County has been hosting the Kericho County Primary Schools Term Two ball events, with play set to conclude today.
Schools from six subcounties, Sigowet/Soin, Ainamoi, Kipkelion West, and Londiani, participated in the two-day event.
