JSS, Form One Calendar Dates for Released
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu provided a summary of the school opening dates for all students moving to either Junior Secondary School or Form One with the announcement of the Form One placement exercise on January 16.
Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), CS Machogu confirmed that the school calendar will revert to normal, with Term One beginning on Monday, January 23, 2023, and lasting for 13 weeks until Monday, April 23, 2023.
This includes a three-day midterm break from March 23 to March 26, 2023.
In addition, the reporting period for students in Form One will be from February 6 to February 13, 2023. According to the Education CS, the one-week break will allow students to fully transition from primary to secondary school.
In addition, Grade 7 learners must report to their respective Junior Secondary Schools by January 30, 2023.
Prior to the issuance of the comprehensive policy by the Presidential task team, Machogu noted, a preliminary curriculum would be implemented.
“All 1.2 million pupils who sat for 2022 KPSEA will transition to grade 7. We have issued a preliminary curriculum to be used as we open schools, but the final one will be in the Presidential Taskforce Report which will be released in March,” he noted.
The CS also noted that Grade 6 exam results will be accessible on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) website beginning on Tuesday, January 17.
“I am happy to announce that the exercise has already been completed and that schools will be able to access the reports through the KNEC portal from tomorrow, Tuesday 17,” he declared.
In addition, he instructed KNEC to collaborate with the KICD and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to interpret the report for parents and learners.
“I order the Council to hold discussions with TSC and KICD on the national KPSEA report with a view of providing feedback on CBC that can reform ongoing curriculum reviews,” Machogu reiterated.
