St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale defeated Moi Girls Kamusinga 16-15 to win the girls’ handball title at the National School Games in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county, while Hospital Hill retained their title in the boys’ category with a 16-15 win over Mbooni Boys from Eastern.
Lydia Juma’s four-goal display in the first half helped St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale to take an 11-8 lead at halftime, and despite a late surge from Moi Girls Kamusinga, they held on to claim the victory.
St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale head coach, Maureen Sitati, praised her team’s determination as the weapon that secured their win. Miranga finished third and will join St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale in the East African school games.
“We knew we were going to win though it was a very difficult match. We are going to rectify our mistakes in defence to avoid two minutesĀ out in East and also win the title, noted Nelima.
St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale finished third after a 1-0 hard-fought victory over AIC Nyayo.
In this year’s ball games, only Hospital Hill retained their title as defending champions crashed out. Three teams from each category will represent Kenya in the East African school games in Huye, Rwanda, scheduled for August.
The 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Term One National Games provided a platform for secondary school students to showcase their skills in various sports. The games feature competitions in athletics, swimming, handball, basketball, rugby, and hockey, among others.
The event aims to promote sports as an integral part of education and to identify talented individuals who can represent Kenya in international competitions.
