Grade Six Students To Pick 12 Schools For Junior Secondary Selection
George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has stated that Grade Six students will be required to select 12 schools for Junior Secondary school.
According to a circular distributed to schools, students should choose between national, regional, county, sub-county, and private schools.
Students will select two schools from each of the national, regional, county, and private school categories, according to Magoha.
In addition, students will select four sub-county schools.
In part, the circular stated, “Parents will be expected to meet the student’s education in private school.”
Magoha, on the other hand, urged parents and teachers to assist students in selecting schools near their homes to ease the transition on Friday, August 19.
Majority of Grade 6 Students To Attend Day Schools For Junior Secondary
“The majority of the students in private schools who usually do very well will remain in their schools.
"Probably in the coming week, I shall pronounce myself on the number of primary schools that have converted and are ready,” he stated.
Magoha also stated that the application deadline had been set for August 30.
However, the CS indicated that the ministry was willing to extend the deadline in order to keep students from being locked out of the process.
Early this week, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opened the application portal for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
After taking the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in November, Grade Six students are expected to start Junior Secondary in January 2023.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will be held concurrently.
