Grade Four Pupil Dies in Suspected Suicide in Kasarani.
In Kasarani area, Nairobi, police are investigating a suspected suicide after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in her bedroom.
The grade four pupil’s body was discovered on the evening of May 9, hanging from a piece of cloth tied around her neck.
Her mother reported that their house girl called the police to report the incident. When the police arrived, they found the body lying on the edge of a double-decker bed, squatting facing downwards with a piece of cloth round her neck.
The family rushed her to a nearby clinic, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy, and the motive behind the incident is yet to be known.
Similarly, in Ngarua area, Nyahururu, Ibrahim Mwangi Kaburu was found hanging from the roof of his house in an apparent suicide.
The motive behind the incident is not immediately known. Cases of suicide involving both adults and children have been on the rise, and police reports show that most of the victims die from various forms of stress.
According to the police, up to three cases are recorded daily at an alarming rate.
Meanwhile, in Embakasi area, a five-year-old boy, Harun Kipruto, was burnt to death in a fire incident that also left many homeless.
The remains of the boy were discovered the next morning after the fire had been contained. Several iron sheet-made structures were destroyed in the fire incident.
The incidents are a sad reminder of the rising cases of suicides and accidents that have resulted in the loss of lives and property. It is essential to take proactive measures to curb the increasing rates of stress-related deaths and accidents.
