In a covert operation, detectives posing as students infiltrated more than ten WhatsApp and Telegram groups that he oversaw, populating them with people who were targets for the illegal exam papers.
Within these groups, Kalewa, also known as ‘Mr Examiner,’ advertised the fraudulent exam papers, pricing them at Ksh1,500 per paper, with a full exam paper including a marking scheme offered at Ksh2,000.
The DCI statement reported, “In the typical conman’s language, he cautioned the over 900 parents and students in the group not to introduce other matters, as he was busy attending to those who were willing to buy.”

The suspect’s nefarious intentions were thwarted when detectives, posing as students who had not adequately prepared for their exams, engaged with him. He went on to assert his authenticity and urged group members to avoid other sellers, claiming he had numerous clients.
The investigation revealed that Kalewa had been employing stolen identity cards to register multiple SIM cards and had established a bank account with a till-pay bill to receive payments for the leaked exam materials.
Upon obtaining sufficient information about his activities, detectives initiated an immediate manhunt in Gikambura, Kiambu County, resulting in his arrest, during which several SIM cards were seized.
