Butere Girls Football Team Warns Opponents Ahead of Nationals
Tezra Akademere, captain of the Butere Girls football team, has warned elite teams to prepare for a battle unlike any other at the national Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football games, scheduled to begin on August 8 and run through August 12 in Kakamega.
The Western regional champions have intensified their preparations for the country’s most prestigious secondary school competition, which they last won in 2014.
“In terms of preparations, I can say that we are currently engaging in rigorous training, so to speak. We are not taking anything for granted and are confident that we will capture the national championship.
“We assure our opponents that we are coming for them. Ahead of the national school games in Kakamega, Akademere forewarned rivals, “We are coming to win that trophy.”
Akademere, the Red Commando’s central defender, has identified commitment and self-belief as some of the qualities that have helped them succeed in their football voyage and that they strive to always work as a team.
“One of the lessons we have learned as a team is that we must remain dedicated and have an industrious character in addition to working as a unit.
Akademere concluded, “As a defender, I must put in extra effort to thwart any attempts by opposing strikers to score a goal and make their lives difficult on game days.”
Butere Girls, coached by Edwin Sakwa, are in Group A alongside Dagoretti Mixed from Nairobi, Njambini Girls from Central, and Kombani Girls from the coast.
They qualified as champions by defeating Madira Girls of Vihiga county 1-0 to advance to the national tournament.
The red commandos lost 1-0 to Arch Bishop Njenga Girls in the Kakamega County final and finished in second place to advance to the regional tournament.
