Bars Near Schools Given Ultimatum to Shut down
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has issued a seven-day ultimatum to bar owners located within a 300-meter radius of educational institutions.
Failure to comply will result in the demolition of these establishments. Cheruiyot, the Kericho Senator, asserts that these bars have exploited their proximity to schools, endangering students’ lives by selling illicit alcohol and drugs.

Expressing concern over the detrimental effects of alcoholism and substance abuse on families and livelihoods, Cheruiyot urges leaders to join forces in combating this issue. He emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts to address the rampant spread of these vices.
In his campaign against what he deems as the proliferation of illicit alcohol and narcotics, Cheruiyot issues a stern warning to those who violate laws by setting up alcohol outlets near schools. He insists that such offenders will face severe consequences.

Reportedly, Cheruiyot stated, “We cannot negotiate with what’s in the law. It is explicitly clear that you cannot establish liquor stores within 300 meters from schools. Please demolish your structure before authorities take action. We cannot allow you to jeopardize the lives of our children. These bars not only sell alcohol but also distribute other hard drugs. We urge them to address their own issues before targeting our children.”
Last year, Cheruiyot criticized what he referred to as alcohol and drug cartels, accusing authorities of complicity through their passive approach to the issue.
