Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa Assumes Chancellor Role at Meru University

Safaricom’s CEO, Peter Ndegwa, has officially assumed the role of Chancellor at Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST), succeeding Equity’s CEO Dr. James Macharia.

The appointment, effective from November 1, 2023, for a five-year term, was announced by President William Ruto via a gazette notice.

Expressing his excitement about this new responsibility, Ndegwa highlighted his dedication to advancing the university’s mission. He shared his sentiments on social media, stating, “It’s truly a privilege to take on this role, and I am humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me by the university. As I embark on this new journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and dedication to advancing the mission of Meru University of Science and Technology.”

Ndegwa urged for a collective effort towards excellence, innovation, and the empowerment of future leaders and change-makers.

Dr. James Macharia’s term as Chancellor ended on July 20, 2023. Ndegwa’s appointment marks him as the university’s second chancellor.

President William Ruto’s appointment statement read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint– Peter Ndegwa Waititu to be the Chancellor of the Meru University of Science and Technology, for a period of five (5) years, with effect from the 1st November 2023.”
