Barbara Odudu Speaks of Magoha’s Past and How She Lost Magoha in Two Hours
Barbara Odudu, the widow of former Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, spoke about her husband’s dedication to his work and his final moments during the requiem mass at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands.
Barbara stated that she went from being Mrs. Magoha to a widow in just two hours, which came as a shock to her.
She recounted out the events that took place before her husband’s sudden collapse, including a conversation they had earlier in the day and his request for a cough mixture due to feeling ‘chesty’.
Barbara further recounted out that Magoha had asked her to call Professor Walter Mwanda if anything happened to him, which she did after finding him collapsed in their home.
After Professor Mwanda arrived, Magoha told him to check his blood pressure, but he had a second attack as it was being checked. Barbara noted that her husband passed away after the fourth heart attack while on their way to the hospital.
In a touching moment, Barbara revealed that she had a dream the following day of Magoha asking her what she thought he would have done in the situation, to which she replied that she set him free.
“It was best for you, it was best for me, I woke up and said, I have set you free,” she said.
Barbara also spoke about her husband’s past, including his intended journey to Zambia to study medicine and how he ended up in Nigeria.
She spoke about the vision her mother had when Magoha requested to marry her and how she allowed the union to take place after praying.
“When my mum passed on, my husband thought his life was over,” she said.
Barbara stated that her husband was a man of God and Starehe Boys School had a significant impact on his life and the person he became.
People often said that Magoha was obsessed with success because of his constant planning, but Barbara noted that she never complained and was grateful to have had him for 40 years.
She went on to say that marriage was not always a 50-50 split, and at times it was 80-20, with Magoha always taking care of her. Barbara also stated that her husband allowed her to grow and her professional career was important to him.
