7 Students Arrested Over Dormitory Fire At Ober Boys

Monday morning, police in Homa Bay County detained seven students in connection with an arson incident at Ober Boys Secondary School in Rachuonyo East Sub Count.

The students are accused of being responsible for the arson that destroyed 167 dorm rooms around daybreak. One individual admitted participation in the arson incident.

The fire broke out while all of the dormitory’s occupants were in class studying in the morning.

Students in class observed smoke coming from the dormitories and raised the alarm.

Firefighters from the Homa Bay County Government were able to extinguish the blaze before it could spread to adjacent structures.

However, the dormitory’s belongings had been reduced to ashes.

Samson Ole Kinne, commander of the Homa Bay County Police Department, said the seven teenagers apprehended are suspected to be responsible for the school fire.

Ole Kinne states that the students were interrogated at the Ringa Police station, where one of them (a Form two student) admitted to participating in the arson.

The pupils are being held at the Ringa Police Station as police investigations are intensified.

All pupils were in class throughout the fire event, so no injuries were recorded.
