Junior Secondary Classrooms To Be Completed On Time – Magoha

Construction of phase two Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms will be completed on schedule, according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

Prof. Magoha disclosed that the building of the classrooms that will house junior secondary school students beginning in January 2023 is already 90% complete.

He stated that the government was working swiftly to ensure that the classrooms would be finished on time and urged contractors to expedite the completion of the remaining classrooms within the allotted time period.

The Cabinet Secretary stated that the Central, Nyanza, and North Eastern regions had already reached 100 percent completion, but the Nairobi, Coast, and Western regions remained behind schedule.

“We are currently 90 percent finished. Over 9000 of the 10,000 classrooms being constructed have been completed. 

Approximately 800 classrooms are in the last phases of development in Nairobi, Kakamega, and Bungoma.

Magoha spoke at Moi Girls’ Secondary School, Isinya, after inaugurating two CBC classrooms as part of phase two of the project.

After taking the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in November of current year, Grade Six students are slated to enter Junior Secondary Schools in January 2023.

In the first phase of the project, the government built 6,500 classrooms, and in the second phase, an additional 3,500 classrooms are being built.

Private schools are projected to create an additional 5,000 classrooms. Nationwide, 1,200 CBC classrooms have been completed at private schools.

Concerning the choosing of schools by Grade 6 students, the CS recommended parents to sit down with their children and select their preferred schools with caution.

He dismissed reports that certain students transitioning to junior secondary were denied the option to attend schools beyond their home counties, noting that the students are free to attend whatever school they like.

Several students have finished the selection procedure that is now ongoing till September 10, 2022, as stated by Magoha.
