5 High-Ranking Jobs in Kenya Based on Talent, Not Certificates
Monday, July 3 marked the release of the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 (KDHS) by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
The report considered the occupations of employed women and males between the ages of 15 and 49.
Legislators, administrators, and managers are among the high-level positions that Kenyans without a formal education have obtained in the past year.
A greater proportion of women (10%) than males (5%) are employed as legislators, administrators, and managers among those who were employed in the past year.
Additionally, 26 percent of women and 27 percent of men were employed in elementary occupations.
13.7 percent of women were legislators, administrators, and managers, compared to 1.3% who were specialists. 1,1% were auxiliary professionals, while 0.7% held administrative and clerical positions.
On the other hand, 22,2 percent were service workers and market salespeople, while 24 percent were experienced farm, fishery, and wildlife employees.
Craftsmen, machine operators, and elementary laborers represented 1,9, 2,1, and 32,4 percent of the labor force, respectively.
Men
2.8% of legislative, administrative, and managerial positions were held by men, while 1.8% were held by professionals. 2% of workers were associate professionals, while 0.1% performed secretarial and clerical labor.
The two most prevalent job categories for males were skilled farm and wildlife workers (25.4%) and elementary occupations (42.7%).
According to the KNBS, women who performed non-agricultural work in the previous year were more likely to receive cash-only compensation than those who performed agricultural work (88% versus 52%).
Overall, 79 percent of employed women were paid in cash only, while 17 percent were not compensated at all.
The data also showed that 60% of women and 81% of men were employed in the previous year. Additionally, the percentage of women who are either divorced, separated, or bereaved doubled from 6% to 12%.
The education category was organized as follows: no education (no certificate), primary education, secondary education, and higher education (colleges and universities).
The primary purpose of the report was to provide current estimates of demographic and health indicators to facilitate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of population- and health-related programs at the national and county levels.
