18 Cardinal Otunga Girls Suspended Over Allegations of Lesbianism and Phone Possession
Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County suspended 18 students on allegations of possessing mobile phones and engaging in lesbianism.
The school handed out suspension letters to the students on Thursday, dated September 28.
Parents, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the students were suspended on September 18 and subsequently called for a disciplinary hearing on September 28.

During the hearing, parents expressed concerns that students had been subjected to harassment and pressure, leading some of them to falsely admit to the allegations.
The parents add that the school requested that they take their children home with them on an indefinite suspension.
On an unspecified date, the board instructed them to await further communication.
During the hearing, another parent’s daughter faced accusations of engaging in lesbianism due to what was deemed ‘inappropriate dancing’ during a recreational session, as reported by a parent.

Sources indicate that approximately fourteen of the 18 students are KCSE candidates.

The indefinite suspension has placed the parents in a difficult position as they ponder whether or not their daughters will take the national examinations.
Parents expressed their confusion and distress regarding the school’s actions.
They emphasized the profound psychological distress their students are enduring, which has resulted in feelings of shame and uncertainty.
On Thursday, a Citizen TV crew was present at the location where several students were photographed leaving the school grounds.
The attempt to contact the school principal, Mrs. Christine Sifuna, for a comment was unsuccessful.
On a second attempt to text her, the principal responded “false” with no further comment.
