Universities to Admit Students With or Without Fees — Machogu
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has pointed out that all admitted students should report to their respective institutions on Monday of next week.
Machogu stated before the Education Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday that no student should be dismissed for lack of expenses.
He announced that all students would be granted admission while the processing of funding for first-year students is underway.
“All students will be admitted as we are processing the funding for first-year students,” Machogu said.
He emphasized that the universities would receive the necessary funds to ensure a smooth admissions process for first-year students. This measure is intended to prevent any delays or complications arising from admitting students without the required financial resources.
Machogu stated that a circular letter will be sent to universities in order to allow students to be assimilated.
This comes after MPs inquired whether students would be permitted to enter their institutions on Monday despite not having received their scholarships or loans and not having paid their tuition.
In his response, Machogu stated that students are not required to report to school until they receive the scholarship or loan.
As of August 23, 75,272 students had submitted scholarship and loan applications.
He reported that a mere 30 percent of university applicants had managed to successfully secure university funding merely days before the commencement date of the institution.
