2023 KCPE, KPSEA Results Out This Week

This week, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results for 2023 will be out.

Media reports suggest that President William Ruto’s return from his official visit to France and Germany could coincide with the public announcement of the results.

Before the public release of the exam results, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to present and discuss the examination report with President Ruto.

Approximately 1.4 million applicants sat for the KCPE examinations, while 1.2 million took the KPSEA (Grade 6) examinations.

In preparation for the complete implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in primary schools, which will require students to take KPSEA examinations, this year’s cohort was the last to complete the KCPE.

Grade 6 students sat for the KPSEA, the new primary exit exam within the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

It also signifies the conclusion of the 8-4-4 era at the primary school level; this year’s examination, the 39th in its history, will conclude the KCPE.

As part of the CBC, the implementation of a final grade for Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) after Grades 4, 5, and 6 has brought about significant changes to the evaluation of students.

In contrast to the KCPE, a learner’s placement in a secondary school is not based on their cumulative score. Instead, education administrators will inform learners’ primary school academic progress through the results.

The students will also have the obligation to undergo an evaluation in ninth grade, which will determine their admission to senior secondary school.

After twelfth grade, they will embark on an additional evaluation that will dictate their tertiary education trajectory.

Candidates, parents, and educators who breached the security seals of the examination papers or purchased them from cartels to gain an advantage resorted to hacking to secure coveted spots in high schools and universities by attaining higher scores on the 8-4-4 national examinations.
