TVET PS Addresses Anonymous Letters Alleging Incompetence
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Mworia asserts that she has been receiving anonymous letters alleging that she is an incompetent government employee.
She spoke at the Principal’s Annual Conference for public and private teacher training institutions on Monday in Mombasa.
Muoria stated that the author of the letters should identify themselves or sign them so that she is aware of their origin.
She further mentioned that she would like to reiterate her stance, stating that if another anonymous letter was written, it would still be acceptable, and she wasn’t expressing any dissatisfaction.
However, Muoria emphasized that if the sender was confident enough, they should consider signing the letter and revealing their identity as the author. This would enable constructive dialogue regardless of any differences in stature. She expressed that it’s important to speak the truth, even if it’s not always easy to accept.
“Some individuals send me anonymous letters, and I’m okay with that… Amen. But I’ll say it again: it’s fine if you write another one; I’m not complaining,” Muoria said.
She stated that she is unaffected by the threats and intimidation and that they are commonplace.
Muoria stated that threats, hatred, and similar emotions are to be expected. However, she proposed the idea of engaging in a conversation as a more constructive and advantageous approach for everyone involved.
She added that she has not informed the officers because they have other responsibilities.
She mentioned that one wouldn’t usually bother reporting such things to the CID, considering their workload, and instead, they would treat them with the appropriate disregard.
The PS asked the principals and instructors to assist her in providing the best education possible to TVET students.
She expressed her commitment, saying that she had a mandate and would ensure its fulfillment. She suggested joining hands to turn this into a reality.
