TSC Agrees to Redeploy Teachers to St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School After Apology

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has consented to the relocation of educators to St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Kakamega County. This shift in position occurred following a meeting between the teachers’ employer and Members of Parliament from Western Kenya.

The MPs expressed their apologies for the forceful removal of the school’s principal, which prompted the TSC’s decision to transfer all teachers from the institution.

On Tuesday, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya led a delegation of legislators from the region on a conciliatory mission to the TSC’s headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe reported that the entire leadership of Kakamega County, including MP Salasya, extended an unreserved apology to the Principal and all teachers, the TSC, and the people of Kenya for the regrettable incident at St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School.

Dr. Nancy Macharia, TSC CEO, stated that the commission would redeploy teachers to the school contingent upon the school’s commitment to ensuring safety and a peaceful environment for the educators.

She announced, “As a result of our deliberations, I wish to announce that the commission will post 17 trained and registered teachers to the school to ensure that normal teaching and learning activities resume with immediate effect.”

In a contrasting development, Soy MP David Kiplagat has opted to hire 10 teachers at St. Martin Secondary School. This decision follows the TSC’s transfer of 7 teachers from the school after a similar incident where parents forcefully removed the principal due to poor results in last year’s KCSE exams.

Kiplagat emphasized that as leaders from the region, they can ensure the school’s operation with or without TSC involvement. However, he expressed concern over TSC’s decision to recall all teachers, stating that it may not be in the best interests of the child.

The legislator underscored the parents’ right to demand good performance for their learners and reiterated TSC’s mandate to ensure the highest quality of education.
