Sudi’s Primary Teacher Tells Court MP Never Completed His Studies At The School
Oscar Sudi’s primary school teacher testified before the court that he is uncertain of the lawmaker’s whereabouts after class 7.
On Wednesday, Simon Cherop, the legislator’s mathematics teacher at Tulwopng’etuny Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, testified in court that Sudi attended school for two years beginning in 1995.
Milimani Court Magistrate Felix Kombo was informed that Sudi was formerly known as Kipchumba Kipletich and only attended classes six and seven.
“Did you teach Sudi?” The prosecution questioned Cherop, to which he responded, “Yes. I taught him maths in classes 6 and 7.”
Mr. Cherop added that Sudi actively participated in games but did not graduate from high school.
He testified that he was unaware of where Sudi went after completing his primary school education or whether he pursued secondary education.
The teacher was summoned to clarify specific issues in an ongoing case where a lawmaker is accused of forging academic credentials.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the lawmaker was absent.
The court allowed the case to continue after his attorneys stated that Sudi was preparing for next week’s inauguration of President-elect William Ruto.
Sudi is accused of forging a Diploma Certificate in Business Management from the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and a KCSE certificate, for which he claims to have taken the exam at Highway Secondary School in Nairobi.
In May, however, former Highway Secondary School principal Patrick Maritim testified against him, claiming that the lawmaker did not take his 2006 KCSE exams at the school as he had claimed.
Maritim told the court that Sudi was not registered as a student in the 2006 enrollment records.
“According to the records, Sudi did not sit for KCSE exams…” Oscar Sudi’s name does not appear anywhere,“ Maritim said then.
MP skipped the hearing, claiming he had traveled to Turkey for medical treatment, but Trial Magistrate Felix Kombo ordered his attorneys to present evidence.
The court stated, however, that the evidence presented by the legislator’s attorneys in support of their claims did not identify the Turkish hospital where Sudi is allegedly receiving treatment.
In March of this year, the Kapseret representative failed to appear in court after claiming to have contracted COVID-19.
