Student Killed In Accident After Schoolbus Collide As Police Probe Death of Student At Maseno School
On Friday morning, a lorry transporting sand rammed a school bus at the Ntharene market on the Meru-Nairobi road, killing three people instantly.
According to witnesses, the lorry was traveling at high speed from Nkubu when the driver lost control and collided with the Kamiguru Education Centre bus.
According to Mr. John Kamencu, one of the first responders, the impact pushed the bus several meters off the road, killing the two drivers and the student on the spot.
“The accident shocked me because my child goes to the same school. The bus driver was transfixed as he encountered the lorry traveling at high speed and had momentarily stopped to give way, but the lorry hit it head-on,” he said.
Kanyakine Senior Chief Isabella Mutura said that five other students and a teacher survived the crash and were taken to Consolata Mission Hospital to be treated.
Mr. Kamencu stated that the section of the road where the accident occurred had become a blackspot due to its narrowness and the lack of guard rails.
Agnes Mbae, a resident, reported several accidents in the area and urged the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) to widen the road.
Elsewhere, Kisumu County police are investigating the death of a Maseno School student who is suspected of committing suicide.
The Form Three student is said to have committed suicide earlier that day by jumping from the second floor of the school dormitory.
According to Kisumu West OCPD Mr David Nyabuto, the student is said to have left a note in one of his classmates’ locker without indicating the reason for his death.
By the time we went to press, the school had not released a report on the subject.
Mr Caleb Ingolo, the deceased father, has denied the allegations, claiming that the circumstances surrounding his 18-year-old son’s death are unknown.
