St. Monica Girls Students Escape With Serious Burns After Cook Poured Hot Water On Them
Following an unfortunate incident where three Form One students at St. Monica Girls suffered severe burns after one of the institution’s cooks splashed hot water on them, the Ministry of Education has issued a severe warning.
Mr. Luke Chebet, director of education for Trans Nzoia County, warned to support public school staff against harassing students.
According to the medical records, one of the pupils had severe injuries, prompting her admittance to Kiminini Cottage Hospital.
Two further students escaped with minor injuries and were treated and released on the same day.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA)Chebet said that the Ministry has taken proper steps in response to the regrettable situation that transpired last week and caused anxiety among parents and the general public.
“Upon receiving a report of the incident, my office instructed the school’s Board of Management (BOM) to convene an urgent meeting. The same was done and one of the resolutions was summarily dismissal of the cook,” revealed Chebet.
Chebet recommended school administrators and boards of directors to be extremely cautious while hiring staff employees, especially those in the unskilled category, so as not to harm the lives of innocent students.
Chebet said, “The government will initiate punitive measures against public school principals whose employees commit criminal violations against students.”
He used the opportunity to caution school administrators against overburdening parents by collecting payment for what he considered illegal fees.
“My office has received several complaints by parents across the County, with most of them lamenting about their children being sent home for money,” said Chebet who urged the heads to be cognizant of the present hard economic moment.
