Sh28bn School Capitation to be Released by Friday — CS Machogu
In a recent announcement, the government of Kenya has revealed its plan to release a sum of Sh28 billion to primary schools, junior secondary schools, and senior secondary schools in the country by the end of this week.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu made this announcement while addressing the audience at Kametho Primary and Junior Secondary School in Rarieda, Siaya County on Tuesday.
As a gesture of commitment, Machogu handed over Sh2 million for the development of Kametho Primary and Junior Secondary School.
Allocation of Funds
Machogu further elaborated on the distribution of funds, stating that each pupil in primary school will receive Sh1,450.
For those attending junior and senior secondary schools, the allocated amounts will be Sh15,040 and Sh22,240, respectively.
This initiative is part of the government’s new funding model, which aims to provide 70% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to education.
Machogu expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am here with good news because President William Ruto and the government have a new funding model that will give 70% of students from poor backgrounds access to education.”
He added that there is no valid excuse for parents not to enroll their children in school since the government is covering the costs at all levels of education.
Accompanying Machogu was the Information Communication and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo.
Owalo announced the government’s plan to establish digital libraries in various schools across the country.
He highlighted the importance of equipping children with digital skills and competencies to enhance their chances of securing global job opportunities.
The development of digital skills is viewed as a means to alleviate the burden of unemployment in Kenya, aligning with the objectives of the Kenya Kwanza government.
Both Cabinet Secretaries urged the people of Nyanza, a region in Kenya, to support government programs and initiatives.
Owalo emphasized, “I will not tire to remind you, my people, that this is the only government. There will be no other government before 2027.”
Machogu echoed this sentiment and encouraged Kenyans to embrace government programs such as the housing levy, as it would contribute to economic growth and provide employment opportunities throughout the country.
