Ruto Meets with DAAD SG to Discuss Education Sponsorships
President William Ruto met with the Secretary-General of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Kai Sicks in Steglitz, Berlin, on Monday.
During the meeting, Ruto recognized DAAD’s significant role in supporting education and research in Kenya, particularly in science.
The President expressed gratitude for the assistance provided to the country’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Ruto went on to express his hope that DAAD would broaden its scholarship program to include trainers of trainers at the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC).
The President, who is on a four-day tour of Europe, first visited Germany before heading to Belgium.
Before he met with Sicks, Ruto held talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin. During their discussions, the two leaders agreed to strengthen trade relations between their countries.
President Ruto’s meeting with the DAAD Secretary-General comes when Kenya prioritizes expanding technical and vocational education to equip young people with the skills required to enter the workforce.
The government has recognized the critical role of TVET in addressing the country’s unemployment challenges and has set a target of increasing the proportion of young people in TVET from 10% to 30% by 2030.
DAAD is a German organization that provides scholarships and funding for international students to study and conduct research in Germany. The organization has been active in Kenya for several decades, supporting various higher education and research programs.
President Ruto’s visit to Germany and Belgium aims to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic cooperation between Kenya and these European countries.
