Retired teacher linked to alcohol deaths of Five.
A retired school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of selling illegal alcohol, which resulted in the deaths of four people in Karuku village, Mbeere South sub-county, Embu.
On Saturday evening, Peter Wanyota was apprehended. Gregory Mutiso, the sub-county police commander for Mbeere South, says he is being held at Makutano Police Station.
When he was apprehended, the suspect led detectives to the River Tana, which runs along the border of Embu and Kirinyaga counties, where he had hidden 49 bottles of the poisonous liquor.
The arrest was made after members of the public provided information.
Simon Kariuki, 59, Bernard Ndung’u, 56, Stephen Mugo, 50, and John Kimani were among those killed.
Their problems began when Stephen allegedly won KSh35,000 in a merrygoround and invited his friends to join him in Masinga, Machakos county.
When they returned, they decided to “top up” at a local establishment that served the lifeending liquor.
