Primary Schools to Benefit from FIFA Football for Schools Program
Teams from primary schools competing in the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA) national games are expected to benefit from the introduction of the FIFA Football for Schools Program on July 28, 2023.
At Kisumu Boys School on August 13, 2023, on the final day of the primary school games, FKF president Nick Mwendwa made this announcement today.
World Governing Body FIFA will provide footballs and other in-kind donations to select primary institutions.
In addition, teachers who train children will be granted priority for coaching courses provided by the Federation.
Teachers will also have access to the FIFA Football for Schools application, which will assist them in structuring more effective football and life skills training sessions.
Nick Mwendwa, president of the FKF, stated, “Children under the age of 15 spend the majority of their time in school, which is why we are focusing our efforts on primary schools.”
“As a Federation, we remain committed to providing opportunities for young players to explore their potential, in line with our long-term goal of qualifying for continental competitions and the World Cup in 2030,” said the FKF President.
The FKF President announced that the recently concluded primary school games will serve as a platform for the selection of players for the U15 Kenyan team that will compete in the CAF African Schools Football Championship. In November of this year, the competition will be held in Kenya.
In the meantime, the FIFA Football for Schools program is a joint effort between FIFA and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
It aims to make football more accessible to boys and girls around the world, promote specific life skills and competencies through football, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other priorities of the United Nations.
