The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Nandi East is currently investigating an incident in which the bursar of Chebisas Girls Secondary School was robbed of Ksh1.25 million while parked in his vehicle at Nandi Hills town in Nandi County.

Nahashon Lagat, the bursar, reported that he had parked his vehicle in town to purchase an item from a nearby shop. Upon returning, he discovered that his car had been broken into, and the money had been stolen.

Some Nandi Hills residents reported seeing a Toyota Probox vehicle next to the bursar’s parked car, which they believed had been following him. However, they did not investigate further due to the rain.

Following the incident, Nandi East DCIO Rahamad Wasilwa visited the scene and confirmed that investigations had begun. They were examining all the available data, including CCTV footage, to obtain leads.

Wasilwa stated that the money, which had been kept inside the vehicle, was taken by unknown individuals. The investigation also involved analyzing data from mobile phones of the tellers who served the victim and any other communication that might have arisen before, during, and after the withdrawals.

The bursar had withdrawn Ksh400,000 from National Bank, Ksh600,000 from KCB Bank, and Ksh250,000 from Acces Bank, which he intended to use for a school trip.

Chebisas Secondary School teachers had planned to go on a tour of Mombasa County on April 23rd and had each contributed Ksh30,000 for the trip. Despite the money being lost, the teachers still hope that the tour will proceed.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the detectives are still scrutinizing the bursar’s phone. The incident highlights the need for improved security measures to curb the rising cases of robbery and theft in the country.

The DCI and the police department should work collaboratively to ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to book and that justice is served. The public should also be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
