Pastor Ezekiel Ombok Odero School Life
Residents of Ngodhe Island in Homa Bay County have spoken out in defense of Pastor Ezekiel Ombok Odero, the leader of New Life Prayer Centre who is currently in police custody for allegations of mass killings in his church.
His church is situated in Mavueni, Kilifi County. It is a fortified structure that includes a place of worship, a modern hotel, and a school with an international curriculum.
The educational facility catering to students in junior and senior high school has a total of three dining areas. The junior school, on the other hand, is equipped with eight food establishments, and it also boasts a scaled-down stadium that meets international standards.
School Life of Pastor Ezekiel
Ezekiel was deeply rooted in the Christian faith and actively participated in the Ngodhe Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church, where he was an ardent pathfinder in his youth and later served as a choir leader.
He had plans to establish an inclusive church that would welcome members of all denominations under the Christian religion.
Ezekiel attended Miwani Secondary School in Kisumu before proceeding to the Mombasa Polytechnic, but he had to defer his studies due to lack of school fees.
According to residents, he disappeared from their radar for a while before founding the New Life Prayer Centre in Mavueni, Malindi. It is not clear whether he received any theological training.
According to the locals, Ezekiel is a generous and kind-hearted man who sponsored all school-going children on the tiny island in the past year. The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) reports that Ngodhe Island has an average population of 449 people.
The locals fondly remember Ezekiel’s most famous return to Ngodhe on October 10, 2022, when he arrived on the island in a helicopter and interacted with the community.
They have called on the government to conduct a thorough investigation of the allegations against him and expressed confidence that he will be vindicated. Ezekiel’s parents have since traveled to Malindi.
Arrest and Allegations
Ezekiel Odero was arrested on April 27 and presented in court on April 28, where a miscellaneous application was filed to detain him for 30 days. He is being investigated for several offenses, including fraud, money laundering, murder, and child cruelty.
The allegations against Ezekiel are serious and have caused shock and dismay among his followers and the public. The police and other government agencies are conducting investigations to establish the truth about what happened in his church.
Defending Ezekiel
The residents of Ngodhe Island are adamant that Ezekiel is innocent and that the allegations against him are false. They describe him as a humble and caring man who has always been generous to the community. They believe that he is a victim of a conspiracy, and they are calling for justice to prevail.
Ezekiel’s followers have also expressed their support for him, saying that they believe in his innocence and that he has been falsely accused. They have held prayer sessions to seek divine intervention and justice for their leader.
