Oyuu Clarifies TSC Demotion of Some Head Teachers

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Sec Gen Collins Oyuu has affirmed that the rumors about some of the head teachers receiving demotions from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are untrue.

“Some of the head teachers of primary schools are actually PhD holders, so whoever thinks that they are not well qualified and is talking about demoting them will be in for a rude shock,” he said.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers rejected the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms’ (PWPER) proposal to demote non-graduate primary school headteachers.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) responded to claims that it has begun demoting non-graduate primary school heads.

This came after numerous blogs stated that the TSC had initiated a data collection procedure to identify the number of headteachers with graduate degrees and that non-graduate school heads would be degraded beginning in January 2024.

TSC stated on Tuesday, August 22, that it has yet to make any decisions about the demotion of non-graduate headteachers.
