New Kigumo TVET To Boost Construction Industry
The newly inaugurated Kigumo Technical and Vocational Education Training College has been hailed as a beacon of hope for tens of thousands of local youths who are interested in pursuing technical courses.
Kigumo TVET, which was inaugurated on Friday, has a capacity of 1,000 students, and 360 have already enrolled to begin their studies in January.
The college was built by the national government built on a 5-acre plot of land for Sh. 60 million in the Muthithi district in collaboration with the local NG-CDF.
It is also expected to have a long-term positive impact on the local economy.
Since the majority of courses provided at the college are expected to generate trained technicians, Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro emphasized when he inaugurated the institute that it will support the building industry.
Electrical and electronics engineering, plumbing technology, cosmetology, and fashion and design are just a few of the courses that are offered at the college.
Information and communication technology (ICT), construction technology and civil engineering, masonary, carpentry, welding and fabrication, and driving are some others.
Munyoro stated that Sh 8 million will be factored from the local NG-CDF to fund 300 students from the constituency to participate in various courses.
He noticed that some local teenagers were unemployed after finishing their secondary education, saying that supporting them to do technical courses would provide them with an opportunity to make a living.
“My office is geared towards empowering young people from this constituency through providing them with necessary skills and that’s why we have factored some money to sponsor the first bunch of learners to undertake technical skills,” stated Munyoro.
He added: “Technical courses are important since a learner after graduating can employ him or herself. And some of the jobs are even better paying than some white-collar jobs.”
The representative disclosed that he is in discussions with the college’s principal on the procurement of a bus that will take students to the facility in order to lower their transportation expenditures.
Locals near the Muthithi retail center are building rental homes to house hundreds of learners after the institute was opened.
Jennifer Wambui, the principal of the college, praised the member of parliament’s efforts to promote education, stating that he had conducted a thorough awareness campaign to ensure that locals were aware of the new institute.
“The college has been marked as a centre of excellence for building and civil engineering, fashion and design, and is waiting for the government to provide equipment such as blocks, cabros and tiles making machines that are currently being imported,” highlighted the principal.
Wambui urged local youth to take advantage of the college, saying that the given skills are of excellent caliber and will assist them in pursuing income-generating endeavors.
