Moi University School of Law Dominates Kenyan Moot Court Competition

The Moot Court competition held on 25th February 2023 at the Kenya School of Law saw the participation of several esteemed law schools in Kenya.

In this competition, participants engaged in simulated court proceedings that included drafting memorials and making oral arguments. At the end of the event, Moi University School of Law emerged as the champions, winning four out of six possible trophies.

Moi University School of Law’s success was marked by their Best Team Overall, Best Memorial Overall, Best Male Oralist, and Best Applicant Memorial awards.

The team, consisting of Oduor Otieno, Jessica Damar Agak, and Santos Michelle, all third-year students at the School of Law, was coached by faculty members Tali Israel Tali and Bett Rickard, who were volunteer alumni coaches.

Moi University School of Law’s victory has earned them the opportunity to represent both the University and the Country at the global rounds, which are scheduled to take place in Washington DC from 8th to 15th April.

The global rounds will feature teams from various countries, who will compete in several legal areas, including Public International Law, Human Rights, Arbitration, International Criminal Law, and Law of the Sea Convention.

The victory of Moi University School of Law highlights the importance of participating in legal competitions as they provide students with the opportunity to sharpen their skills and gain practical experience in a simulated court environment.

Additionally, such competitions offer students a platform to showcase their talent and potential in the legal profession.

It is worth noting that the success of Moi University School of Law was not achieved in a vacuum. The dedication and commitment of the team, coupled with the expertise and guidance of their coaches, contributed to their victory.
