Missing Class 7 Girl Found Dead In Sugarcane Plantation
Grief has engulfed Kuja village in Ndhiwa sub-county following the discovery of a 14-year-old girl murdered and her body dumped in a sugarcane plantation.
Laventa Awuor, a Standard Seven student at Ariri Primary School, was discovered decomposing on Sunday evening by her family, who had been searching for her after she failed to return home.
The location was 500 meters from her parents’ house. It was unknown how Awuor died, but it was suspected that she was murdered after being defiled.
She was reported missing on July 2 while walking to Oridi Trading Centre.
Chief Elijah Abuto of the North Kanyikela location said the girl was supposed to meet her father at the trading center.
“She was to be taken to one of their relatives but she failed to reach the trading centre,” he said.
“It appears as if she met someone, who blocked her on the way. The area has a large sugarcane plantation where the criminal(s) could have been hiding.”
After Awuor failed to return home later that evening, a search was launched, but she was not found.
Her family had been searching for her all week, until her body was discovered on Sunday evening.
Mr Abuto, a neighbor, said the body was discovered by neighbors on their way to the market.
A foul odor emanating from the sugarcane plantation piqued their interest. They stumbled on Awuor’s body as they got closer.
