Ministry Probe Into Nyambaria High School Threats to KNEC Officials

The Ministry of Education has initiated a probe regarding how Nyambaria Boys High School behaved during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

This occurred following the students purportedly threatening officials and invigilators assigned to the institution by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to oversee the examinations.

A few days before the incident, the ministry had suspended Charles Onyari, the school principal, from his position as center manager on the grounds of alleged exam malpractice.

A senior education official revealed yesterday that students had lodged complaints regarding the officials’ extreme strictness.

“It is accurate that the students intimidated KNEC personnel stationed at the institution. However, contrary to what some have claimed, they did not assault them, he stated.

He stated that the student’s disruptive behavior prompted them to request the deployment of additional police officers to the school.

They express discontent with the invigilators. They repelled them because the invigilators were allegedly strict. Officially, “We have no idea what they mean by strict.”

The official stated that only the Cabinet and Principal Secretary can comment publicly on school developments.

Nyambaria High School made headlines in 2022 when it defeated the academic behemoths of Kenya to top the KCSE examinations. After receiving grades of C+ or higher, the school admitted a total of 448 students to universities.

Leaders from the region denounced the students’ behavior and asserted that they were conspiring to falsify examination results.
