Magoha Reveals His Next Job After Missing in Ruto’s Cabinet

After being left out for a Cabinet position in President William Ruto’s administration, outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha intends to return to teaching.

On October 10, the former vice-chancellor of the University of Nairobi (UoN) revealed that he would return to the classroom after his tenure at the Ministry of Education ended.

However, the CS did not specify which institution he would be joining or whether negotiations were already underway.

The CS worked as a medical lecturer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and as a urological surgery lecturer at UoN before joining the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and the Cabinet.

Magoha revealed that he would also work as a medical practitioner for a time.

“I am also going back to my surgical clinic just to do a little because I want to enjoy life like the other. I believe that I have given enough back to society,” he stated.

The outgoing CS, who had expressed interest in serving as CS in Ruto’s administration, stated that he enjoys teaching and mentoring young professionals in the medical field.

According to the CS, his tenure at the Ministry of Education was a success, based on the projects he unveiled and the measures he put in place to prevent exam leakages.

Among the programs he credited himself with was the implementation of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In this regard, he commended Ruto for convening a task force to review CBC rather than abolishing it.

The outgoing CS offered his services to Ruto’s administration in September 2022, stating that he was a better fit to oversee the implementation of the CBC, with the first cohort expected to transition to junior secondary school in January 2023.

“If we are thinking in the same direction and he gives me the support that I require and if it is God’s will, then I will say yes,” he stated then.

A group of parents also urged Ruto to keep Magoha, whom they claimed was essential in implementing the new curriculum.
